The White House has requested a Navy Ship bearing the name of the United States President Donald Trump’s opponent John McCain to be kept “out of sight” during his visit to Japan, reports the Wall Street Journal.
“USS John McCain needs to be out of sight,” a Navy official ordered in an email about the visit, reports source.
The ship was undergoing repair work at the Yokosuka US Naval Base after 2017 accident, would have difficulty to move from the US President’s speech on board another ship in replacement, cited the officials.
A tarp was laid on the name of the ship, which refers to McCain’s forefathers, the sailor of the ship were offered a day off and a barge hide the ship after it was taken down, reads the Journal, though the barge wasn’t moved in order to block the name of the ship, reports the Navy officials.
Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan claims that he was not aware of the instruction to move the ship, Joe Buccion, his spokesperson said, “nor was he aware of the concern precipitating the directive.”
President Trump has mentioned the statement on Twitter. His post reads, “I was not informed about anything having to do with the Navy Ship USS John S. McCain during my recent visit to Japan.”
“Nevertheless, @FLOTUS and I loved being with our great Military Men and Women – what a spectacular job they do!”
Trump andMcCain, who died in August was taken to prison and tortured during the Vietnam War, had rival political relationship.
President trump has never served in the US Military, mocked at the moderate Republican’s status in 2015, as a War Hero.
McCain is a prominent figure in US politics for years, who himself ran twice for Presidentship, has withdrew their support for Donald Trump in 2016 Presidential Election and restricted his healthcare efforts in 2017.
Before he died of brain tumor at the age of 81-year, McCain didn’t allowed Trump to take part in his funeral.
Even after his death, Trump has continued to make his dislike of the senator known: “I was never a fan of John McCain and I never will be.”
McCain’s daughter Meghan tweets, “Trump is a child who will always be deeply threatened by the greatness of my dads incredible life.”
“There is a lot of criticism of how much I speak about my dad, but nine months since he passed, Trump won’t let him RIP. So I have to stand up for him. It makes my grief unbearable,” she added.
