On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country will reply to any deployment of intermediate-range nuclear weapons in Europe by not only targeting the countries where those missiles are positioned but itself in the United States.

During an annual address to the Parliament, President Putin said that Russia was not seeking confrontation and would initiate the first step to install missiles in reply to the United States withdrawal from the INF (Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces) Treaty.

But the Russian President continued that the country’s reaction to any installation would be resolute and that the US policy-makers should evaluate the risks before initiating any further steps.
