President Trump May Talk to Chinese President Xi Over Phone Discussing Coronavirus - TNBC USA

On Thursday the United States surpassed China and Spain with the highest number of coronavirus cases. A few hours after President Donald Trump announced that he will have a telephonic conversation with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. At a press conference, Trump announced that he will be speaking to Xi at 9:00 pm (0100 GMT Friday).

As per a tracker controlled by Johns Hopkins University, the US has now surpassed  virus hotspots China and Italy, with 82,404 cases. However Trump has denied the fact saying that “you don’t know what the numbers are in China.”

President Trump said he will be discussing the global pandemic with his Chinese counterpart and insisted they have  a “very good relationship.” However, there has been a controversy between the two countries over the blame for the disease.

Trump has repeatedly called COVID-19 a “Chinese virus” as it first appeared in a seafood market of Wuhan city. The dangerous virus is rapidly transmitted among  people through cough or sneeze. The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had repeatedly claimed that Beijing has delayed in sharing information about the virus which “truly put thousands of lives at risk.”

Meanwhile, a Chinese foreign ministry official has claimed that US soldiers brought the virus to China, which Trump called as a “conspiracy”. On Thursday President Trump highlighted saying “no it came from China,” and added “if they feel so strongly about it, we’ll see.”

The whole world has taken the strategy of mass social distancing to combat the deadly virus which has resulted in massive economic fallout. Through the telephonic conversation the two biggest economies of the world, will be discussing plans to negotiate a new US-China trade agreement. Trump predicted that the Chinese president may “want to wait” until after the US presidential election in November “to see if Trump gets beaten.”
