Maldives President Brings Back Normalcy In The Country

Male, March22- Abdulla Yameen , the president of Maldives yesterday announced that he would lift the 45 day long emergency to bring back normalcy in the country. He initially declared a temporary emergency for 30 days on 5 th February by challenging the Supreme Court of the country against it’s verdict on nine tainted opposition leaders.After this the president arrested Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the former president of Maldives, the Chief Justice, another judge of the Supreme Court and another senior official of the Supreme Court for charges of corruption and disruptrive activities in the country. They even tried to overthrow the Yameen Government according to the media sources. The president as decided to reduce the Supreme Court to three bench judges after the arrests of the culprits.

Mohamed Nased , a tainted opposition leader however described their arrests as unlawful and politically motivated.On the other hand India ,a close neighbor of Maldives has welcomed Yameen’s idea but advised him to let the judiciary system to function according to its own will.
