Kemerovo, March 25- More than 50 people were charred to death after a devastating fire broke out in a busy shopping complex yesterday in Western Syberia. Many people including children were also missing according to to the media sources. Russian news agency Tass has confirmed the death of 53 people on the spot. The video footages of several news channels across Russia showed thick smoke gushing out from the Winter Cherry Shopping Center in the city of Kemerovo that includes a sauna, a multiplex cinema and also, a bowling alley that was packed up with people on Sunday. The firefighters rescued around 120 people from the market complex so far according to the media sources.
Many people are still expected to be trapped inside the mall which has taken the shape of a veritable gas chamber. When initial reports came in it was stated that only 5 people including a child were killed and others were hospitalized in the incident but then the last report came in the toll mounted up to 53. The firefighters have rescued 120 people so far from the spot according to Alexandre Eremeyev an official of local Russian emergency services. He also added that it was very difficult for the fighters to figure out how many people were trapped inside the market complex. Local emergency sources reported that 500 firefighters and rescue officials were engaged to manage the situation. When the ultimate report came in various media channels it was stated that the fire was at last doused by 17: 50 GMT. Russian Minister for Emergency Services Vladimir Puchkov has already left for Keremovo and ordered thorough inquiry about the cause of the fire.
