EU Backs WHO after Trump’s Pull Out Threat, says it’s time “for solidarity” - TNBC USA

After United States President Donald Trump warned the World Health Organization to quit, the European Union came to support the World Health Organisation and multilateral efforts to fight the coronavirus.

European foreign affairs spokeswoman Virginie Battu-Henriksson told reporters, “This is the time for solidarity, not the time for finger pointing or for undermining multilateral cooperation.”

During today’s session of the world health body;s annual assembly to urge an  “impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation” of the international response to the pandemic, the EU has sponsored a motion. The spokeswoman said,  “The European Union backs the WHO in its efforts to contain and mitigate the COVID-19 outbreak and has already provided additional funding to support these efforts.”

President Trump has accused the UN health agency of being biased towards China and delayed to provide pepper information about the deadly virus. However, earlier also the Brussels-based EU has opposed Washington. The US taking action against WHO freezed that US funding for the WHO.

“They’re a puppet of China, they’re China-centric to put it nicer,” Trump accused. Both  Beijing and WHO have declined all the allegations. Beijing said it has never downplayed the threat and Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated at the World Health Assembly that his nation had been “transparent” throughout the crisis. The EU is carrying out an independent inquiry into how the pandemic started and spread.
