On Monday, Ivanka Trump got a ribbing back home after critics took issue with the prominent role played by President Donald Trump’s daughter during summits in Japan and South Korea. Ivanka Trump is a constant presence in the White House and her official role is an advisor to the president.
Americans have become used to seeing her at cabinet meetings and Oval office ceremonies. During the G20 summit in Osaka, the way in which she was constantly appearing was not accepted by all. She was also seen during Trump’s dramatic visit to South Korea, where Trump made a brief over the border into the North.
Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump were the president’s fixed associate in Osaka. He also discussed some of Washington’s thorniest diplomatic issues with other G20 leaders. A video clip was released by Osaka showing a slightly awkward meeting between Ivanka Trump and several world leaders went viral.
The video shows Trump’s daughter approaches when Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May, IMF chief Christine Lagarde, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussing policy issues.
She attempted to join the discussion but she was ignored by a frowning Lagarde, who stands just to her right. One of the Trump family’s loudest critics, Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, “It may be shocking to some, but being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification.”
Earlier, Ivanka Trump and her husband have traveled frequently with the president and Trump has long been known to trust their advice. Kushner had already taken part in developing a plan for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that so far has gained little traction. The users of Twitter making fun with an #UnwantedIvanka hashtag campaign that encourages photoshopping the First Daughter into as many unlikely situations from history as possible.
