On Tuesday, the United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has met the visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, during which he has strengthened on the key role of Pakistan in peace process of Afghanistan and counter-terrorism.
A spokesman of the State Department, Morgan Ortagus claims that “Secretary Pompeo emphasised the continued importance of the United States and Pakistan working together to advance shared priorities, including Pakistan’s significant role in supporting the Afghan peace process and counter-terrorism.”
Ms. Ortagus continued, “The Secretary looked forward to continued progress from Pakistan on shared security priorities, including defeating terrorist organisations, which he hoped would form the basis of a reinvigorated partnership.”
Mike Pompeo had last meet PM Khan on September 5, 2018 in Islamabad, Pakistan.
During the meeting Mr. Pompeo and PM Khan has discussed the options for enhancing cooperation, including expansion of trade and investment sectors.
