Democratic presidential candidate former Vice President Joe Biden has won the Democratic primary in Washington state, the US media reported. It will come as a boost for the frontrunner who is hoping to build an insurmountable lead over rival Bernie Sanders.

On Monday night, after almost all the votes were counted the result was out, a narrow victory for Biden, who is targeting to win over Sanders for the chance to challenge President Donald Trump in November.

As per sources, the former vice president Biden had won 37.9 percent of the vote, with the leftist Sanders close behind with 36.4 percent. The result came as millions of Americans were due to troop to polling stations in three more states on Tuesday, with the fear of fast-spreading coronavirus that has killed more than 80 people in the US so far.

There were doubts over whether election booths will be safe during the pandemic as Arizona, Florida, and Illinois prepare for the primaries. Voting has been postponed in Ohio where police stations have been closed, making it the latest and largest state to upend the voting schedule due to the outbreak.
