An ex-Chief economist and consultant who worked for the United States lab at the International Space Station has been accused by federal authorities with wire fraud for a kind of expensing tours to prostitutes and escorts in cities around the world as per the information of the officials.
Charles R. Resnick, who served for the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, the nonprofit which handles the International Space Station National Lab and is sponsored by NASA, was accused in an indictment lawsuit on 11th April by federal prosecutors in central Florida.
Resnick was imprisoned around that time and released on bond on 12th April, said William Danniels, a representative for Maria Chapa Lopez, the US attorney for Middle Florida. Daniels refused to comment further.
According to the summons, Resnick framed to meet escorts, as well as prostitutes in the cities such as London and New York, using counterfeit documents and later consented reimbursement requests for the tours. Resnick offered “ materially false and fraudulent information about the purpose of travel, activities on trips, and the expenditure of funds”, the impeachment claims, saying the activities occurred between 2011 and 2015.
It remarks, “ expenses incurred for escorts, prostitutes, and commercial sexual activities were not part of the ordinary, necessary, and reasonable travel expenses or related expenses for which employees could be reimbursed”.
Resnick did not reply to a message left at a phone number registered for him in court records. His lawyer, James Felman, did not reply to an appeal for the statement.
CASIS president and CEO Joseph Vockley told the reporters, “CASIS is fully aware of the recent charges brought against former employee Charles Resnick”. He also added, “in 2015, CASIS immediately cut ties with Mr. Resnick upon discovering his actions, which were in clear violation of company policies and procedures. ”
Vockley said that an internal probe of the travel history of Resnick had been mentioned to the office of the Inspector General of NSAS around the time.
He said, “ CASIS has fully cooperated with the OIG’s investigation and will continue to do so”. He also added, “ we will not have any further comment while this criminal matter is pending.”
Resnick is also accused of filing misleading false tax returns related to the way he reported his business expenses. As Chief Economist, Resnick had a salary of $ 220,000, as per the website NASA Watch. bAs per to motherboard, CASIS started controlling US laboratory portion of the International Space Station in 2011, for which it accepts about $15 million in funding a year.
