Disney and Pixar have at last launched the teaser trailer for the forthcoming sci-fi animated film named Lightyear, based on the sources of Buzz Lightyear, the space ranger that influenced the adorable character of Toy Story.
The Lightyear teaser offers our first glimpse into some of the film’s action-packed moments as well as its visible tone and the cult character’s signature green-white space suit. It features the voice of veteran of Marvel Cinematic Universe Chris Evans. The film is expected to be released in theaters on June 17, 2022. There isn’t any direct competition on its present theatrical release date. However, it will launch in the same month as two other high-profile films such as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Jurassic World: Dominion. Lightyear happens to be a sci-fi action-adventure film by the director and veteran Pixar animator Angus Maclane of Finding Dory fame. It is produced by Galyn Susman, who had earlier financed Toy Story 4 and Ratatouille.
The animated spin-off film is based on the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, voice-over by Tim Allen in the original movie series, launching the fabled Space Ranger who would win a lot of followers, across all generations. It is supposed to explore the journey of a young test pilot becoming the Space Ranger that we all know him to be today.
The Toy Story franchise began with John Lasseter’s 1995 film, after which there were three more sequels, featuring the voices of Tom Hanks, Annie Potts, Tim Allen, Wallace Shawn, Don Rickles, John Ratzenberger, and more. Presently, the films have a combined global gross of above $3 billion. Both the last two films had earned an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
