‘covaxin’, India’s first very owned Corona Vaccine, developed jointly by Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and Bharat Biotech will start their Phase 1 Trials soon this week. After getting a green light from DCGI (Drug Controller General of India) for Phase 1 and two trials.
The vaccine will be tested on 375 People in phase 1 and on 750 People in the following phase. So all together the vaccine will be tested on more than 1000 People in phase 1.
For the trial, 12 Medical institutes have been selected by ICMR. The first trial will start from All Indian Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Patna from This week.
The exciting news is the vaccine has passed the animal trial phase successfully and now its in the Human trial phase. In the first phase, more than 1000 people will be tested, and depending on the outcome of the study more people will be tested in the Second Phase. The estimated time frame of the trials is expected to be 6-8 months.
The Vaccine will be tested between individuals of age group 22-50 years. The Vaccine is made with dead particles of SARS-CoV-2, disabling them from infecting or replicating. Once the Vaccine is injected, the body will produce an antibody that will fight against the foreign bodies and thus will control the live virus.
Now, the Question is the vaccine be released early without proper testing and research?
In the letter, Biotech has mentioned it will take 3 months to 1 year for the trial. So if the trial starts by this month on time the phase 1 will take 28 days to complete. That’s before the deadline date of August 15. So it clear that it is impossible to initiate the Second and Third Phase by the deadline.
