Russian President Vladimir Putin has validated today the registration of the first successful Corona Vaccine ‘Sputnik V’ in the government meeting. The president has also confirmed the tests are showing great potential, showing long-lasting immunity against the deadly virus.
Putin thanked everyone who worked on the development of the vaccine and also added its “a very important step for the world”. He is confident that the country’s research body will soon start mass production of the vaccine.
Putin said that his daughter had a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit) on the day of the first vaccine dose, and then it dropped to just over 37 degrees (98.6 Fahrenheit) on the following day. After the second shot, she again had a slight rise in temperature, but then it was all over. “She’s feeling well and has high number of antibodies,” Putin added.
According to the Russian Authorities, the vaccine will be injected first to the Teachers, Medical Workers, and then the other groups. Moreover, the President has ensured the government after the registration, 60% of the Russians should be vaccinated.
The health minister Mikhail Murashko informed that the vaccine registration is conditional, trials will continue along with the production. Murashko also added that the first Russian vaccine will begin to be into production at two sites – the Gamaleya Research Institute and the company Binnopharm.
Currently, WHO and Russian Authorities are in a discussion of the process for possible WHO prequalification for its newly approved COVID-19 vaccine
“We are in close contact with Russian health authorities and discussions are ongoing with respect to possible WHO prequalification of the vaccine, but again prequalification of any vaccine includes the rigorous review and assessment of all required safety and efficacy data” WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic told a U.N. briefing in Geneva, referring to clinical trials, according to Reuters
Kirill Dmitriyev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund said Phase 3 trial will start from Wednesday and Industrial Production to be start from September 2020.
Kirill also added that 20 countries across the world have also shown interest in the potential vaccine and has already pre-ordered billions of COVID-19 vaccine. Along with foreign partners, Russia is ready to manufacture 500 Million doses of vaccine per year in five countries.
With more than 20 Million infected people and nearly 75,000 death, worldwide Russian’s first vaccine against the virus is showing hope. However many scientists remained skeptical and questioned the discussion of the registration of the virus before the Phase 3 trial which normally takes months and involves thousands of people in the testing process.
