On Sunday, US President Donald Trump and his first lady Melina Trump landed on Air Force One near the Daytona International Speedway to serve as grand marshal at the annual National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing event. The race is NASCAR’s most prestigious race that takes place every year in Dayton Beach of Florida.
President Trump took a loop around the Daytona 500 racetrack, and the spectators in red hats waved American flags and held Trump signs inside and outside the track. The reelection campaign of Donald Trump took full advantage of the millions of NASCAR eyeballs watching on race day airing an ad on Fox and flying a bright red “KEEP AMERICA GREAT!: banner near the track. Next, Trump took a ride in the presidential limousine known as “The Beast ” directly onto the racetrack along with the rest of his motorcade.
Trump met the people, delivered brief remarks, and then kicked off the race by announcing to the drivers, “Gentlemen, start your engines!” The engines increase their speed, and Trump got back into the limo with his wife, Melina, to take a round around the track. The race cars followed his car while some fans chanted “Four more years,” cheering Mr Trump.
The event on the weekend showed how Trump plans to approach his 2020 campaign. It further revealed the presidency to his Make America Great Again or MAGA base and raising money with high dollar donors all over the country. “NASCAR fans are patriots who support the President in huge numbers, so we definitely wanted to communicate directly with them about Keeping America Great during the Great American Race,” Brad Parscale, Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, said in a statement.
However, the race was postponed after a short time of starting because of rainy weather. Earlier, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, and many other famous personalities attended the yearly NASCAR event. Florida is one of a handful of swing states in the US, and Donald Trump won Florida in 2016 during his competition against Democrat Hillary Clinton.
