On Thursday, the White House National Security Advisor John Bolton has acclaimed that interception by UK’s Gibraltar of a loaded tanker reported being carrying crude oil from Iran to Syria, claims the ship was breaking international sanctions.

Bolton tweets, “Excellent news: UK has detained the supertanker Grace I laden with Iranian oil bound for Syria in violation of EU sanctions.”

He continued, “America & our allies will continue to prevent regimes in Tehran & Damascus from profiting off this illicit trade.

Iran has rebuked the detention of oil tanker as an “illegal interception”, said Gibraltar Chief Minister Fabian Picardo in a statement that the tanker was believed destined for Banyas Refinery in Syria that is subjected to sanctions of Europe.

“That refinery is the property of an entity that is subject to European Union sanctions against Syria,” added Bolton.

The 1000-feet Grace 1 oil tanker was halted in the early hours by custom agencies and police in Gibraltar, which is a small overseas British territory on Spain’s southern point.

It were aided by an objectivity of British Royal Marines.
