Electrified commercial fleet developer Lightning eMotors has announced the sale of an all-electric double-decker coach bus with a capacity of 70 passengers. The converted diesel coach now features a 640-kWh battery pack installed by Lightning eMotors, providing an estimated range of more than 200 miles. This is the largest known battery capacity for this vehicle type, according to company sources.
A Colorado-based manufacturer, Lightning eMotors ($ZEV) is specialized in electrified solutions for commercial fleets. Their team engineers, designs, customize, and manufactures ZEVs for catering to a wide range of fleet customers require, including electric conversions of everything from Class 3 cargo vans to Class A motor coaches. The company has facilitated developing electric emergency vehicles too, like a BEV ambulance, besides REV Group.
The organization is growing, and now it has collaborated with some major brands in fleet transportation. Earlier in March, this year, DHL had announced its plan of deploying 89 Lightning Electric Transit Vans provided by Lightning eMotors.
The latest customer of the company is All Aboard America! Holdings, a US-wide transit specialty sales, and service provider specialized in highway coach vehicles.
According to the sources at Lightning eMotors, this is the largest known battery capacity for this type of vehicle, i.e., electric double-decker buses that can accommodate 70 people. Moreover, the bus can charge up in less than six hours on a 150 kW DCFC. For the company, electric single- and double-decker buses are the perfect solutions to transport employees on corporate campuses and students at local universities. It’ll be a substitute for the privately operated vehicles of the passengers on roads. The first electric double-decker bus of Lightning eMotors fi will be delivered to Lux Bus America in Anaheim, California, which is a transit company in the All Aboard America! Holdings family. It is expected to be deployed later this month.
