US auto major Ford Motor Corporation has launched a compact Cross-hatchback Freestyle from its stable to allure the car enthusiasts of the generation next. It is a modified version of Figo, the popular hatchback launched by Ford after Fusion, the previous hatchback failed to create any .positive impact in the Indian car market. The Cross hatchback
segment is a niche segment of the Indian car market and hence the auto manufacturers have become very cautious about the positioning their vehicles in this segment. Only a few vehicles e.g. the Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Hyundai I20 Active and Toyota Etios Cross have succeeded to catch the attention of the Indian car lovers. Ford has planned to phase out Figo and has decided to introduce Freestyle to cater the need of a small family.
The exterior of the vehicle Is quite similar to Figo but the vehicle looks sporty and much smarter than the earlier one. Ford has added a few new features in the exterior of the vehicle It has a different honeycomb shaped black front grille , different shaped bumpers, different side skirts , fender extensions and different type of alloy wheels The vehicle also has a racing stripe decal on the lower portion of the doors and luggage rack on the roof that can carry ap[to 50 kilos of weight and this makes ideal for a small family outing. The rear portion of the vehicle has some similarities with that of the Figo.but the plastic skid plates, stylish plastic claddings, and revamped bumpers give the vehicle a bold look and revamped smoked out tail lamps add an extra gloss to the vehicle. The Freestyle has the ground clearance of 190mm which gives the vehicle an edge over its competitors. The lackluster black and silver dashboard has been replaced by a gorgeous reddish brown dashboard with a high definition infotainment set up.
The Freestyle consists of a new sleek 1.2 liter 3 cylinder petrol engine which is quite similar to that of its popular SUV
Ecosport. The archrival of the Freestyle is the Ignis of the Maruti Suzuki which is comparatively cheaper than it. The price of the premium model of the Ignis is 6.50 lakhs on the road while that of the Freestyle is 6.94 lakhs. Both of the cars have some common features but the freestyle is, more powerful than the Ignis and contains more safety features The Freestyle offers you an option of 6 airbags while the Ignis contains only 2 airbags. .The Freestyle is also a tough competitor of pricey cross hatchbacks like the Toyota Etios Cross, Hyundai I20 Active and Honda Wr- V and these vehicles are costlier than it but it is much ahead of its competitors if one can compare its power, performance, and styling. It will surely create a sensation in the cross- hatchback segment according to the automobile experts.
