On Wednesday skipper Dinesh Karthik’s hit a half-century, while triage of his bowlers helped the Kolkata team to quash the last ranked Rajasthan Royals from the Indian Premier League 2018.
Rajasthan Royals got a chase of 170, they pulled off with an amazing energy, however, the good time ended soon with the fall of Ajinkya Rahane (46) and Sanju Samson (50). Two time champions KKR who help back RR are to play against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second qualifier on Friday and later against the CSK on Sunday.
KKR was blessed from the bowling side, as the due Kuldeep Yadav (1-18) and Piyush Chawla (2-24) were formidable with just let go 42 runs in their eight over. This somehow brought Rajasthan to a halt at the Eden Gardens.
It seemed that the RR team has a heartbreak due to the absence of Jos Buttler, who returned to England for national duty. Buttler had given five fifty’s which proved as a lifesaving kit for his team. The twins Rahane and Samson added a considerable 62 runs, howbeit Rajasthan missed to pull off the task.
Krishnappa Gowtham the off-spinner from the Rajasthan Royals turned thumbs down for Kolkata to a quick start. His marvelous overs dismissed Sunil Narine and Robin Uthappa as the hosts’ keel over at 51-4 in eight overs.
In the previous matches, Dinesh Karthik was seen in a superb form. He led from the front with a smooth 52, followed by Russell who was a powerhouse of 49 not out that assisted the team to save from a defeat and drive to goal from the opponent to 169/7.
The right-handed batsman Karthik was a boon for the team. His calm copious run was essential to make the Kolkata’s campaign a true success.
