This later afternoon, a section of the bridge in south Kolkata crashes down. Several people feared trapped underneath the debris, some injured still in their vehicles. Six people were reported to have seriously wounded been rescued. The bridge collapses over a rail track in Alipore, one of the busiest areas in the city.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that “We are very worried. We are receiving information from the rescue team on the ground. We want to go back as soon as possible. There are no flights in the evening, we are unable to do so.”
He continued that “Our team is focused on relief and rescue work. Our priority is relief and rescue. Rest of the investigation will be done later.”
Kolkata fire brigade team, police, and National Disaster Management personnel are still carrying out the rescue operation.
