UP Police Officer rained “Rose petals” to Welcome Kanwar Pilgrims

Meerut: The Police officer of Uttar Pradesh arrange a ‘Rosy Welcome’ for Kanwar Pilgrims. Meerut Senior Officer Prashant Kumar, accompanied by Commissioner Chandra Prakash Tripathi, greet the pilgrims by showering rose petals from the Chopper. As per report, the activity done to maintain peace and harmony during the Yatra.

When this activity went viral on Social Media users criticize the officer with anger and comment:-

  • Wastage of the taxpayers money
  • Aerial surveillance ride meant for better crowd management, is being “misused”
  • Who is paying of this joy ride
  • Misuse of Power  

While, on the other side Police called its “soft” PR activity. It will build faith between the public and police but social media comments does not shows any soft sides or not feel like PR activity.

The Kanwar Yatra basically is an annual pilgrimage by the Shiva devotees who walk from their homes to Haridwar, Gaumukh, Gangotri in UttaraKhand to bring a pot filled with Ganga water during Sharavan, the fourth month of the Hindu Calendar (July 23 – Aug 22). The Ganga water is used as an offering to their local Shiva on Amavasya or the New Moon day or Shivaratri day. Each year, heavy security measures are taken by the government and the police. So, there will no mess up erupt.
