National Green Court grants the restrictive access of Vedanta Ltd

On Thursday, the National Green Tribunal has granted the conditional access of Vedanta Ltd to its Tamil Nadu Copper smelter, over two months the plant had been shut down.

On August 20, the next hearing for this case will be resumed, declared the court.

Tamil Nadu government ordered for the permanent shut down of the Thoothukudi Plant as power supply was already disconnected in May. It was followed by a number of protests, which later on turned more violent and concluded in firing on protestors of the Police force, killed 13 of the protestors as well.

Protestors demanded permanent closure of the Thoothukudi Plat in Tamil Nadu, which they report to cause excessive water and air pollution for the villagers. However, Vedanta denied the allegations and said that all the protest was drafted on wrong notions.
