On Monday, Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced for a new railway line, which will form soon between Tripura and Bangladesh.
North Eastern Regions’ Union Development Minister said that the work had already started, connecting Agartala and Akhaura on the rail link of 45-km long. Akhaura is a sub-district of Chittagong, Bangladesh.
Singh explained, “It gives a special sense of satisfaction that the cost of the Indian portion of the project, from Agartala to the Bangladesh border, is being funded by the DoNER at an estimated amount of approximately Rs. 580 crore, while the Bangladeshi portion of the rail link is being funded by the Minister of External Affairs as grant assistance.”
He further exclaimed that this project would surely open up entire North-Eastern region and Tripura to the world outside and facilitate the growth of trade and commerce along with the goods and services between the two countries, India and Bangladesh by ensuring maximum use of the Chittagong Port.
