Speaker of Lok Sabha, Sumitra Mahajan declares on Thursday that Parliament members can speak in any of the 22 languages. It is written in the Constitution, amendment in Eight Schedule, which has a number of interpretations and is available for the remaining five languages.
Ms. Mahajan says, “I am happy to announce that members can now express themselves in any of the 22 languages given in the Eight Schedule.”
The facility to speak and interpretation in the house was previously available only for 17 languages and now it has been revised to 22 languages.
Lok Sabha Secretariat had made an arrangement with the corporation of Rajya Sabha to extend the mentioned 17 languages into 22, with an addition of Kashmir, Dogri, Santhali, Konkani and Sindhi languages as well.
She added that if any members wanted to speak in any one of the 22 languages, have to inform the house, 24 hours beforehand.
