PM Modi tweeted, saying “Spoke to Kerala CM Shri Pinarayi Vijayan and discussed the situation arising due to floods in various parts of the state. Offered all possible assistance to those affected. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Kerala in the wake of this calamity.”
Home Minister reports that 24 people in Kerala have already died due to constant rainfall and flooding for last two days.
State Tourism Minister KJ Alphons informed media about the support of the air force, navy and army for rescue and relief operations to Kerala affected people.
Central Government’s inter-ministerial team is also visiting Kerala’s flood-affected areas. Army troops are mobilized from Bengaluru for operating in the flood-affected southern state.
In various dams, the water level is increasing and have reached almost its maximum capacity, of almost 22 Kerala reservoirs was opened to drain out the excessive water. For the last two years, heavy rains and water release from the Idamalayar dam resulted flooding in low-lying areas of Kerala’s North-eastern districts.
The excessive rainfall resulted in flood, which water generated landslides in some areas of Kerala.
