‘Bangla’ replaced West Bengal

‘Bangla’ replaced West Bengal

On Thursday, West Bengal Assembly made a declaration to replace the state name as ‘Bangla’, in all three languages- English, Hindi, and Bengali.

This renaming was initiated to climb the alphabetical series of State names, in which list West Bengal used to appear in the last.

However, for the final approval of the name “Bangla”, the state needs to wait for the Home Minister’s consent on the plan.

Previously, the Central government had rejected the re-naming plan of the State Government of having three different names, Bengal (in English), Bangal (in Hindi) and Bangla (in Bengali).

The proposal of TMC, Mamata Banerjee government of renaming West Bengal as ‘Paschim Bango’ in the year 2011 was also dismissed by the center.

But now finally everything is set, West Bengal will get recalled as ‘Bangla’.
