Akali Dal withholds voting Polls of Deputy Chairman in Rajya Sabha

Shiromani Akali Dal, the support of BJP, may withhold from the election to the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman post on Thursday, reports sources.

At the SAD leader’s meeting, this decision was considered at President Sukhbir Badal residence.

The party has three lawmakers, who belong to the Upper House. The list includes Naresh Gujral, whose name was in contention. In Rajya Sabha, members of BJP NDA also lack the majority.

M Venkaiah Naidu, Chairman of Rajya Sabha today in the House announced that the Deputy Chairman election will take place on August 9 at 11 am.

Mr. Naidu also recommended for the election of Deputy Chairman, who should be elected by harmony. Hence, the nomination paper must be completed fill-up before noon on August 8.

Since June, this year the post of the Rajya Sabha’s Deputy Chairman is lying vacant, which followed the retirement of PJ. Kurien, former Deputy Chairman. He was elected on a Congress ticket from Kerala.

Harivansh told to source that BJP-led NDA did not make any kind of official announcement till yet and this is for the first time that the Parliament is supposedly the option for the post.
