6 Customs Officials Among 19 Held At Trichy Airport For Smuggling

New Delhi (News Service)- A gang of 6 smugglers has been busted by the CBI at the Trichy Airport Tamil Nadu. On Monday the officials had said that they 19 people were apprehended by the CBI after the six custom officials who were involved into illegal gratification.

The operation had started on Sunday without any prior notice. The agency had apprehended that the Assistant Commissioner, Customs, SM Venkatesulu, Kalugasalamoorthy and S Ramakrishnan, inspector’s S Anees Fathima and Prashant Goutam and a multi-tasking staff in the customs department.

Moreover, 13 other including the two people who were holding Sri Lankan passports were also arrested by the CBI. The operation was based on the inputs that Customs officials active on duty at the Trichy International Airport has indulged in unfair practices. The operation revolved around the inputs that the customs officials who had been posted at the Trichy Airport. The illegal gratification that was brought from carriers such as smugglers. The goods involved cigarette packets, alcohol bottles, gold, receivers which are illegal into India. The agency has also seized the accused. However, formal arrests have not yet been made.
