Health official said, “Two more persons infected with deadly Nipah virus died in Kerala, adding the death toll to 16 even as another person was tested positive in Kozhikode, a Madusudhanan (56) and Akhil Karasserry (28) died in Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night”.
The Official said that both patients showed some symptoms of recovery in beginning, but later on their condition fainted. He also added that both might have affected with the infection from the hospital.
Another person admitted to the hospital was also tested positive, raising fresh concerns about the viral outbreak.
Three infected and nine others with Nipah infection symptoms are in the hospital. Dr. R. L. Sarith, State health director pointed that the state is yet to get any information about the death of an army man suspected to have died of Nipah infection in Kolkata.
Seenu Prasad 28 years aged was on 1 month leave in Kerala before joining his duty on May 13, a spokesman of the Army said that his body was cremated in Kolkata and fluids were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for further testing.
Akihil’S death triggered concerns since he was not highlighted in contact list prepared by the health department. He was also not from the area where the infection was first reported. However, some of his relatives added that he used to visit the medical college hospital to meet a relative of his friend recently.
When the state was trying to overcome the situation, the coming monsoon brought more worries.
The health department has decided to increase doctors under observation. the government has decided to give them free ration and sustenance allowance as most of them have been confined to their homes.
