New Delhi: The Delhi Cabinet approves 1,000 electric buses by June next year. Delhi people will soon able to travel in Air – conditioned and Low floor electric – run buses. On Thursday, Delhi after approval Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal appointed Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) as the project consultant.
The Deputy Chief minister Manish Sisodia said that the project has been delayed by three months as per the deadline set during the budget. He said that the actual cost of electric buses and sources of funding would be ascertained after DIMTS carries out its study. On the other end, Delhi’s transport minister Kailash Gahlot said that the transport department has been instructed to study and explore the feasibility of procuring hydrogen – run buses and when that is done, the government will move in that direction too.

“This is a big decision for the capital`s public transport and pollution issue. This time next year electric buses will start running in the city” said Manish Sisodia Deputy chief minister. He also added that DIMTS will provide a study report in the next three months.
Manish Sisodia added “ Expert China, nowhere in the world are there so many electric buses available. At present, there are only 30 electric buses in India, out of which 25 are operating in Himachal Pradesh and five in Mumbai,”. He also said world over, public transport is moving towards electric and the decision taken by the Delhi cabinet is keeping in mind the pollution issues and public transport needs of the city.
