Continuous rainfall since last week followed by an unexpected flood in Districts-Bongaigaon, Baksa, Kamurp Rural (Rangia), and Barpeta has taken the lives of over 40 people and 13 lakhs are badly affected amidst this Pandemic crisis. The flood situation arises as to the rivers Puthimari, Beki, Aie, and Pahumara are overflowing due to continuous downpour
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has carried out a rescue operation in the flood-affected district of Barpeta on Sunday. The team successfully carried out a successful evacuation of 487 marooned villagers to a safe place.
A Total of 11 Search and rescue team is placed in the districts like Jorhat, Bongaigaon, Kamrup Metro, Kamrup Rural, Baksa, Barpeta, Cachar, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Dhemaji and Tinsukia as the regions are now on high alert. Also, the NDRF control room is closely monitoring the affected areas.
Over 200 villages in 24 districts have been affected. Dhemaji in upper Assam and Barpeta in lower Assam are the worst-hit. In Arunachal Pradesh, low-lying areas of Pasighat and Namsai are underwater. Over 70% of the Kaziranga national forest has been flooded. As per the forest department, a total of 41 animals are killed and 49 are rescued to safety.
Bridges, Roads, Drainage system, embarkments are damaged totally due to the severe rainfall and landslides across the state. A severe flood alert has been issued in Assam and to its Neighboring states like Arunachal Pradesh as the River Brahmaputra is raging over the danger level. Heavy rainfall is likely to continue till 16 July.
