American film and television production Lucasfilm Ltd. LLC has announced the cancellation of the Star Wars Celebration 2020 because of the global impact of the coronavirus. The declaration read, “In speaking with local and state authorities on the latest public health guidelines related to indoor conventions, we have made the decision to cancel Star Wars Celebration for 2020.”
The company also announced that the convention would return in the year 2022 from Aug 18 to 21 in Anaheim, California. The date has been scheduled after two years so that the fans would be able to celebrate the Star Wars universe.
The last four events of the celebration happened in Orlando, Chicago and London. However, the event will get returned to California for the first time since 2015. The event has been a kickoff for a new era of Star Wars films and TV series through the new streaming site Disney +.
Popular movies such as The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker have premiered at Star Wars Celebration and went on viral very soon.
Fans who have already purchased tickets will be able to transfer their current ticket to the new event dates or receive either a refund or credit for Star Wars Celebration merchandise, said Star Wars in a statement on its website. The coronavirus pandemic has already seen July’s San Diego Comic-Con canceled.
