Karnataka cabinet to be augmented today but JD(S), Congress to leave vacancies

The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to take place at 2:12 pm at the Governor’s place on Wednesday, but neither the Congress nor the JD(S) has disclosed the names of the MLA’s who are to take the oath.

Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy will augment for the first time of the cabinet on Wednesday, but neither the Congress nor the Janata Dal (S) will fill up all the berths while the sole Bahujan Samaj Party MLA N Mahesh is ready to take oath as a minister.

The oath-taking ceremony, two weeks after Kumaraswamy took charge, is being decided to be held at 2:12 pm at the Governor’s place, which is an ‘auspicious time’, a senior Congress leader said.

With severe persuasion by MLAs on both sides, the parties have decided to augment the Cabinet in two phases, said national secretary general of JD(S), Kunwar Danish Ali.

Mahesh, the BSP legislator is ready to become the first member of that party outside Uttar Pradesh to become a state government minister. “As they were the pre-poll allies we have decided that they should be included in our Cabinet,” Ali said.

The state senior Congress leaders, including erstwhile chief minister Siddaramaiah and party strongman DK Shivakumar, met party president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Tuesday to finalize the portfolios.

The two parties had decided to split the thirty-four ministries in the ratio of 2:1. Therefore, the Congress will get twenty-two ministries and the JD(S) twelve, including the chief minister’s post.

Neither the Congress nor the JD(S) has disclosed the names of the MLAs who decided to take the oath or their portfolios.
