On Friday afternoon high drama unfolded with a series of tweets and blog posts from Paytm and Google on the removal of Paytm app from its Play store, citing the breach of its gambling restrictions. Later bringing it back again by the evening.
Google Vice President of Product Android Security and Privacy Suzanne Frey on a Blog post mentioned, “We don’t allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies.” without mentioning the name of Paytm directly in it.
On the other hand Paytm tweeted, “Dear Paytm`ers, Paytm Android app is temporarily unavailable on Google’s Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back very soon. All your money is completely safe, and you can continue to enjoy your Paytm app as normal,”
According to the Founder of Paytm, Vijay Sekhar Sharma, Google is using its Monopoly Power to harassing the other Indian Startups to gain their customers for its own payment business as Google pay itself is competing with some of the Indian payment Apps.
